Peek Into the World of Coffee-Making at Hacienda Mamecillo
The Boquete region is the oldest and most well-known coffee-producing area in Panama.
The unique blend of rich volcanic soil, a mild climate, and ample rainfall creates some of the most coveted coffee beans in the world.
At Hacienda Mamecillo, the team cultivates, harvests, and processes 100% organic and eco-friendly coffee. The farm is 1700 meters above sea level, nestled in the cloud forest. Since 1957, they have been producing top-tier coffee across 1.5 hectares.
A day at the Hacienda starts with a 3-hour hike through the wildlife-rich highlands.
Back at the farm, guests dive into a farm-to-table lunch with free-range meats and the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables.
After lunch, take a tour of the farm, visit the greenhouse, and meet the adorable farm animals. Learn about the Hacienda’s sustainability projects, such as the native tree nursery or worm compost initiative. End the day by sampling the farm’s famous single-origin coffee and discovering the art of preparing the perfect cup.
Stairway to Heaven: The Barú Volcano
With 3,475 meters, Mount Barú is Panama’s highest mountain. It’s part of the Volcan Barú National Park, an ecological preserve with seven types of microclimates and rich biodiversity.
Interesting Fact: It’s the only place in the world where you can see the sun rise between the Pacific and the Caribbean Ocean.
You can reach the summit of the mountain either by hiking or by Jeep. The hike usually takes between 4 and 6 hours and provides the opportunity to encounter various wild animals, including the critically endangered Resplendent Quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno). Unfortunately, due to the loss of its habitat, sightings of this vibrantly colored bird are becoming increasingly rare.
The early start of the day is very rewarding as it allows you to witness a spectacular sunrise. Under the right conditions, you can see both oceans simultaneously as the sun rises.
